My Name is Jonathan, and I am a Chronic Test Taker

"My name is Jonathan, and I am a chronic test taker." I can imagine myself standing up and saying that at some meeting for examinees anonymous. I have already taken and passed the bar exam in more than one state, and now I’m taking the CPA exams. Having always been good at numbers (especially…

Government Accounting: 5 Hour Energy and Lambers

Hello everyone.

It's been a week into my studies for FAR.  I decided to start with Government Accounting,  it's an area that I haven't touched in a few years and frankly whatever I once knew about it has long since gone.  In the last week I've been reminded why I don't work in government accounting; I respect anyone who chooses this as their…

FASB for Lunch: Time Well Spent

Hello everyone!

Today I decided to squeeze in some study time during my lunch hour.  I began by watching a video on FASB Standards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLNPUDUWkSg&list=PLAF87E4335AFBFB90).  Within a few moments I had to pause it, “what?!.......new codification…. hu?  Oh my gosh, have I…

AICPA Releases Score Release Timeline for Q1 and Q2 2013 Testing Windows

CPA Exam score  release timetables have been such a hot topic amongst candidates that we  have decided to post regular updates. Problems & Saving Time: In the Middle of REG

It's usually when you are in the middle of REG that you find problems. I always take Business Law part easy and put emphasis on the Tax part-mainly because I am a number person and I like calculation than memorization. Plus doing problems with number makes more accomplished.

But I know this feeling is wrong. It resulted in a failure in AUD as it's purely memorization and I…

On my Way to REG: Less Pain So Far

It's been several weeks since I took AUD last time, and I am swimming in the REG book. Lots have happened, and I have just got accepted by a graduate program with funds-which would extend my stay in US so I don't have to return to my country before my first CPA section gets expired.

REG is less painful than FAR and AUD since it's not purely calculation or memorization, but a combination…

Figure it Out: The Best CPA Review Material For You

Just like everyone else who ever decided to take the CPA exam, I had questions about the BEST review material.  I wanted something that would guarantee that I would pass each section on the first try. At one point, I  may have  researched more on that subject and other exam takers study systems than actually studying (sad, but probably true). One thing I have learned is that…

Scared or Lazy?: Need to Get it Together

It so incredibly sad that I can't pull my sh*t together to pass this exam. Am I scared of something or just lazy?

I have the materials, the support (thanks #twudygroup) and I can make the time. Its like I have more excuses than motivation at this point.

At first I really NEEDED a new job. I recently accepted great position in the field I really wanted to a career in.…

Now or Later: To Rewrite or Not to Rewrite

My notes are a complete mess. Definition and keywords in margins, tiny  handwritten formulas and scratch outs as far as thee eye can see. Its a good thing I'm keeping them all in the same notebook or they probably would be thrown around my office/toddler playroom by now.

Part of my study plan was to watch the lectures take notes and review. I was going to rewrite my notes as…

Realization: The Hardest Part of the CPA Exam

It has come to my realization that the hardest part of the CPA exam may not be the exam itself.  Yes the exam itself is tough, but with the proper tools and studying you can prepare and pass.

The hardest part of the exam is probably preparing to take the exam.

Let me explain....

First you research endlessly to select the perfect CPA review materials.

While waiting for the materials to arrive,  you spend more hours Goggling the best way to study for the exam and…

It Begins: My CPA Exam Journey

This is Gina's CPA Exam Journey...

Hello, my name is Gina and on February 28th, 2011 I was fired from my job as an accounting clerk after 8 years. I wont go into details, but lets just say the split was..well refreshing.

Although losing my job was a real blow to my ego, it was probably a blessing in disguise. You see, if I  hadn’t lost my job, I would not have…

Caution!! Road Signs Ahead!!

I decided to create a post because I was thinking to myself how I wish life came with warning signs like the roadway. Going up that mountain and enjoying the beauty, we sometimes forget that we have to come down. Thanks for those signs that tell the grade of the road and where we can go if we lose control of our car. I feel now that I am too focused on my destination that I don't notice the signs ahead such as "slow down!!" or "road crossing ahead!!". Qualifying now to take my CPA exam in my…

Signs: No More Self-Doubt

Hello to all my fellow CPA candidates!

Although I'm not a superstitious person by nature I do tend to look for "signs" to sort of guage whether I'm on the right path or not. I think to some extent we all do it in one fashion or another.  My sister, well she's a little extreme in her need for external answers, often seeking out the assistance of psychic's.  I laugh (but quietly) when she…
