I've not been out of school so to speak. My original goal was to get a Ph.D. then teach. I was very fortunate to stumble upon projects related to ERP Implementation during the summer terms. During the regular academic terms, I became the defacto go-to person for IT issues and solutions in our office. Because of my work experience on summer terms, I got to assist in teaching the computer applications component of accounting classes.
However, my realization set in last spring, so I've decided to give practice a shot. So here I am at the beginning of my 30s basically starting again. It's never too late. I applied for jobs and got an offer. The firm that I'll be working for in the Fall encourages even folks who will be working in IT Assurance to obtain a CPA license in addition to CISA.
It's an investment in terms of time, resources, and plus sanity to go for the CPA. Each person's goal is similar and yet unique at the same time. To throw back the question at you, what is your long term goal in getting the CPA aside from gaining credibility (and prestige)? How will it align to your IT business?

I suppose you're the only person that can decide what is best for you. If you want to head your career more into the Accounting direction or develop more Accounting skills for the benefit of your business, it could be a great thing for you to pursue.
